For Students and Teachers

Present Tense offers an everyday discount of 10% for college students with ID. We carry many Genesee Community College course books as well as New York State Regents review books.

We encourage local schools to take advantage of our Volumes Program, which offers special pricing and bulk discounts. We offer several prpograms for school students, including our annual poetry contest and our Young Adult Book Discussion Group (teachers interested in giving extra credit to students attending our YA book discussion should contact us).

    Book Fairs

    Book Fairs

Raise money for your school by scheduling an in-store book fair at Present Tense! A portion of the total sales during the book fair are donated back to your organization. ANYONE can help make the book fair a success! Ask your friends, family, children’s friends, co-workers, students, neighbors, local business, anyone you can think of who might want to help. All they have to do is make a purchase at Present Tense during the book fair date and give the cashier a book fair voucher, and your organization will get a portion of the sale!

Unlike traditional book fairs that bring certain titles to a particular site, a Present Tense book fair takes place inside the store. Because of this, our book fair is virtually unlimited. We offer a wide selection of new and used books and through our warehouses, we have more than one million titles that can be shipped to you! All items in our store count toward your school's donation, including new and used books, educational toys and games, and gourmet coffee and tea. Books that are special ordered during the book fair also count toward your school’s donation. The only items that do not count are gift certificates and clearance items.

A book fair at Present Tense is a great way to raise money for your school while supporting a local business. We have a large selection of titles for all grade levels, and you can customize the books offered for your students. We can accommodate teacher and library wish lists and you will have an opportunity to showcase your school groups right in the store. Give us a call or stop in today and let us help you take advantage of this exciting program!

    Author Visits

    Author Visits

Present Tense specializes in coordinating author events for your school or organization. Through our trade associations and networking, we have connections with people throughout the literary community, including many children’s authors in the area. These writers love to meet with groups and discuss their books with students. Present Tense can arrange author visits, provide books for reading prior to the event, coordinate author signings, and take care of all the details for a successful author appearance. Please contact us for more information and to let us know how we can meet your needs.

    Fieldtrips

    Fieldtrips

Present Tense is located in a Victorian building constructed in 1874 that was once the home of Rev. John H. Yates, a well-known poet and hymn writer at the turn of the century. What better way to educate your students about Batavia's history than to have them tour the home of one of its most famous residents? We can arrange to have children come for history presentations, story time, or workshops. In addition, Present Tense's Yates Gallery is available for small groups to use if off-campus space is needed.

    Teacher Appreciation Night

    Teacher Appreciation Night

Present Tense recognizes the outstanding work of local educators at our annual Teacher Appreciation Night in September. Teachers, staff, and administrators from all school districts are invited to attend. During the event we offer FREE advance copies of upcoming books, curriculum materials, reading lists, and other items to help promote books and reading in the classroom. Teachers receive 20% off all purchases that night as well!
